162. (a) Miscellaneous.-The following works were carried out under this head:-210 feet of 6" cast iron pipe were laid in Pine Tree Hill Road, 170 feet of 6′′ cost iron pipe in Lok Shan Road, 24 feet of 6" cast iron pipe in Pei Ho Street, 225 feet of 4" cast iron pipe in Hill Wood Road, 280 feet of 3" wrought iron pipe, 350 feet of 5" cast iron pipe and 280 feet of 2′′ wrought iron pipe in Ho Man Tin Street. Electric lighting was installed at Yaumati Depot. Hardwood fencing was erected round the yard at Yaumati Depot.

163. Port Works.-Expenditure under this head was for the taking of borings off Kowloon Point, the erection of turnstiles and an electric clock at Mong Kok Tsui Ferry Pier, and for other minor works.

164. Chatham Road Extension. This work was referred to in paragraph 138 of last year's Report.

The Contract was completed in 1932, and only the Retention money ($5,000.00) was paid in 1933.

165. Improving existing main roads for motor traffic.-The Contract for resurfacing Prince Edward Road with 7" re- inforced concrete from the Railway Bridge to Leven Road was awarded to Messrs. Hop Hing & Son on 26th April, and the work was satisfactorily completed by August.

166. Improving Waterloo Road from Nathan Road to Rail- way Bridge.-Re-inforced cement concrete decking was con- structed to the nullah in Waterloo Road for a length of 333 feet and various lengths of parapet walling were completed.

169. Refuse Dump at Sung Wong Toi.-This work was re- ferred to in paragraph 142 of last year's Report. A new contract was let to Messrs. Chung Lee & Co. in March and satisfactory progress was maintained during the year.

170. Rewiring of Government Buildings.-The following seven buildings were completely rewired for electric light, power and faus; total number of points, two hundred and ninety- eight:--Nos. 2 and 3 Royal Observatory Quarters; Tsim Sha Tsui, Mong Kok and Hung Hom Markets; Yaumati Police Station and Police Training School.

171. Resumption of Ma Tau Wei Village.-The Government obtained possession of all the village lots by exchange. There was, therefore, no expenditure under this head.

172. Upkeep of Government Sites.--No work was done under this head during 1933.

173. Mong Kok Police Station, Fence wall with railings.— The work consisted of the levelling of the ground and the erection of a wall on reinforced concrete foundations, to enclose the ex- tended boundary of the site. It was completed in May.

174. Back Lane Service Pipes.-9,432 feet of 1" to 3" diameter wrought iron piping were laid as subsidiary mains in back lanes. 521 houses were connected to these mains during the year.

175. New Service Reservoir, Yaumati Hill.-This work was referred to in paragraph 149 of last year's Report. Excellent progress was made during the year, the concrete to walls, invert, piers and half the roof slab being completed, and the framework and reinforcement for the remainder of the roof being ready for
